The Jurassic Coast Cruises

We also offer a range of cruises around the coast to the UK's only natural World Heritage Site. Between Exmouth and Studland Bay you will find over 185 million years of history. Jurassic Cruises along the coast run at various times throughout the summer and are also available through private charter.

Departing Exmouth Dock during the summer months we head along the Jurassic Coast past Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth with a full commentary on the rocks and geology.

Here the rocks are 250 million years old Orcombe Point, just east of Exmouth, marks the start of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. On the cliff top, Prince Charles opened the Geoneedle in 2002 to celebrate the inauguration of the Site. Here the rocks are a staggering 250 million years old and were formed in baking deserts.

Sailing east, it is possible to travel through 30 million years of Earth history to Sidmouth, passing the famous Budleigh Salterton Pebble Beds (the remains of a giant river), red sandstone cliffs packed with nesting birds and the sea stacks at Ladram Bay. Sandstone that is about 100 million years old and after heavy winter rain, huge mudslides flow onto the beach where they are washed away by rough seas to uncover the fossils.

Jurassic Coast Cruises are available on The Dartmouth Castle or The Lady Penny.
